Formation of the Association
The Association of Anaesthetic Technicians and Technologists of Nigeria was established in August 2007 during a 3-day update course organized by the Department of Anaesthesia at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital in Benin City, Edo State. This course brought together Anaesthetic Technicians from the South-South geo-political zone, which comprises five states in Nigeria.
Expansion to a National Association
After its formation, the association decided to extend its reach and become a national organization. Initially, it had success in the South-West and South-East zones but faced challenges in gaining a response from the three geo-political zones in Northern Nigeria. However, after approximately 7 years, it started gaining more recognition and participation from the Northern zones around 2016.
Increase in Awareness
The Association gained significant recognition and popularity in 2018 following a National Conference/Workshop organized by the association, which saw participation from Anaesthetic Technicians from both Southern and Northern parts of Nigeria. This event helped the association grow and gain members from across the country.
